Microsoft Releases Free "Chart Advisor" for Excel 2007

Chart Advisor is a prototype Excel Add-In that appears as a button on the Insert ribbon next to the standard charting tools.  It attempts to automate the process of chart generation by using an advanced rules engine to scan your data for properties that inherently make good charts.  It will generate some charts, rank them, and display the set as thumbnails in a new dialog.  From this dialog you can manipulate the charts by changing how the data is mapped and filter out data from the chart.  When done, you can insert the chart back into the spreadsheet.

Microsoft's Photosynth Now Allows Creation of Your Own Synth!

Microsoft has released the first full release of Photosynth. -- Photosynth takes a collection of regular photographs and reconstructs the scene or object in a 3-D environment.  For those of you who have seen the videos or tried Microsoft's tech preview, you could experience synths that they made in their lab and get a feel for what Photosynth is and how it works.  But now, for the first time ever you can create synths from your own pictures and share them with your friends.
Ready to Make Your Own Synth? This first version of Photosynth has some limitations that you need to be aware of:
    1. All synths are uploaded. They're big, so you need to use a broadband Internet connection.
    2. All synths are public. Your photos will be visible to everyone on the Internet.
    3. Like the viewing experience, the "synther" only runs on PCs (XP and Vista).

Why Does Microsoft's "NBC Olympics" Website Affect YOUR Website?

With the Olympics beginning tomorrow, the entire world will see Microsoft's next generation web platform Silverlight.  Microsoft created the "NBC Olympics" Website - and it is indeed gorgeous!

So why does Microsoft's "NBC Olympics" Website affect YOUR website?

Because people bring their "expectations" from one website to another! People will look at YOUR website and wonder why it's not as "good" as the "NBC Olympics" Website

Is it fair for your website to be compared with a website designed by a staff that's probably much bigger than yours? Nope!

But that doesn't matter -- people bring their "expectations" from one website to another!

Microsoft's "Mojave Experiment" Now Online

As a Microsoft blogger, here's MY obligatory link to Microsoft’s "Mojave Experiment" (^_^)
Welcome to the "Mojave Experiment"  What do people think of Windows Vista when they don't know it's Windows Vista?  Microsoft disguised Windows Vista as codename "Mojave," the "next Microsoft OS" so regular people who've never used Windows Vista could see what it can do - and decide for themselves.

Microsoft's Photosynth Team Merges With Virtual Earth

We've all played with programs like Group Shoot that stitch photographs together -- but Microsoft's first public demo of Photosynth showed this was possible in 3 Dimensions!

So I was excited to read on Chris Pendleton's MSDN Blog that "Microsoft's Photosynth Team Merging With Virtual Earth". I always felt these two services belonged together.

Our near future includes many mobile devices with both GPSs & Cameras. It will be trivial for our pictures to be uploaded to the Internet with tagged geo-coded information.
Even better -- most people will have no clue nor care about "geo-coding"! They'll simply think it's cool their pictures are placed on a map, and automatically stitched into a Photosynth 3D World!
