Microsoft Releases Updated "Community Clips" Video Training Recorder

Microsoft has released a new version of the Community Clips recorder. If you have a previous version of the recorder installed, you should receive an upgrade notification within 24 hours. (Thanks Sunil)

There are Two Main Updates:

Some of you have received the “Unable to get installer type…” error during install. This error was due the recorder’s dependency on Office 2007. We’ve removed this dependency from the recorder in this release. If you do not have Office 2007 you can still install the recorder and record clips from the systray icon. If you have Office 2007 you’ll continue to use the recording controls in the Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). Let us know if you have any issues during installation.
We’ve changed the recording profile used by the recorder. We had previously used high audio bitrates for recording which increased the file size of the recorded video. This was unnecessary since audio in the clips is mostly speech. So we have reduced the audio bitrate to reduce the file size. Additionally we’ve fine tuned the video frame rates that we capture. This reduces the file size further. We’ve tried to reduce the file size without compromising on the quality of the video captured. We would love to get feedback from you regarding how these changes impact the recording quality.

Microsoft Releases Two New Visio 2007 Add-in Connectors

Visio 2007 Connector for Rack Server Virtualization (Virtual Rack) Add-in provides the capability to pull the rack-server data either from Excel spread sheet or from user and render the Visio diagram.

The scope of the Rack Server Virtualization Add-in is:

Allow user to provide Colo, Rack and server information either from Excel Workbook / Sample excel Template / Using a wizard. The input data includes power rating, space used, etc.
User can configure the connector analyze the servers based on either current CPU utilization data (using WMI) or past CPU utilization data (using SCOM) over a time duration.
User can also configure to pass the credentials or use the Windows Authentication to perform analyze/ connect to SCOM Servers.
After Analyze is complete the CPU usage, memory usage etc. for each server will be fetched either from WMI or SCOM based on the option selected by the user.
For each rack, based on the CPU and memory usage for each server in that rack a virtualization picture will be prepared in addition to the existing picture of the rack to allow user to compare the before and after scenario.

Visio - Exchange Server Connector diagrams an Exchange Server site topology, including sites, servers, and connections for an organization.

Although Exchange Management are invaluable tools for managing, monitoring and administer networks, computers, services, and other system components. It does not provide a graphical view of user mailbox details. The administrator has to sift through a tree view and use embedded data to figure out the details

Microsoft Management Console (MMC) hosts administrative tools that you can use to administer networks, computers, services, and other system components. Exchange Management Console and Exchange Management Shell are used to administer and configure specific settings for Mailbox servers and create and manage Mailbox objects.

The Mailbox server role hosts mailbox databases, which contain users' mailboxes. If you plan to host user mailboxes or public folders, or both, the Mailbox server role is required.

Administrators have to sift through a tree view to view the members of the Distribution group in an organization unit.

The Microsoft Office Visio 2007 Connector makes it easy for Exchange administrators to visualize, explore, and communicate complex information. Instead of viewing single user data at a time, administrators can create data-connected Visio diagrams that display data at a glance and dramatically increase productivity.
